New Storage to Drive Efficiency

Cleanbake are pleased to announce investment in a new, bespoke, storage solution. This has been implemented into Cleanbake's purpose built production site in November 2010 and we have fully utilised the extra, roller racking style, 273 spaces it has created. Not only has this improved the safe working environment for it's employees, it has enabled new business to be sought in conjunction with other site improvements, allowing the increased capacity to become a reality.

"We are very excited about the new storage facility and now can truly see the advantages it has already started to deliver. Not only has it increased our efficiency in the production environment, but will also allow us to pass benefits onto our customers, for example, we will now be able to offer long term storage of equipment both under roof away from the elements as well as outside."

"The transformation of the outward area has also flourished with the implementation of the roller racking. Not only by utilising the surplice space upwards, but also by easing the bottle neck of loading capacity in terms of pallet allocation to the loading area".

Cryogenic Water Cleaning

Cleanbake has introduced an eco-friendly Ultra High Pressure (UHP) water jet technology as part of a development programme to reduce dependence on traditional chemical cleaning treatments and accelerate productivity.

Recent trials have shown significant advantages from the use of UHP water jets in removing carbon deposits from hard-working baking tins. Cleanbake are now evaluating options for automating parts of the Cleanbake cleaning process with a robotic UHP water jetting system.

A range of baking tins are currently being partially treated with UHP water at operating pressures between 40,000 and 55,000 psi. with ultra high pressure water pumps supplied by Suffolk-based Aquablast Ltd who specialize in novel applications for the supersonic water technology.

A key advantage of UHP water jetting is the very low volumes of water required. Each jetting lance uses only four liters of water per minute and there are no chemicals or abrasives of any kind involved. The carbon arising from the cleaning process are easily collected for disposal and the water can be filtered and recycled back through the Aquablast system.

"This technique has significant potential for Cleanbake to reduce our carbon footprint and raise our environmental profile. The low volume of water from these UHP tools allows the safe use of this equipment both for manual and robotic operation. We are examining the best options for further integration of the Aquablast UHP system into our treatment process"

"Testing and analysis is ongoing to ensure that the surface preparation standard achieved, prior to re-coating with non-stick materials, will give the same performance life as conventional chemical cleaning."

"A safety training and basic maintenance programme for Cleanbake's UHP operators was undertaken at the outset of the project and Aquablast provide additional technical and training support. Aquablast design and manufacture their own application tooling and special tools are being developed for some of the Cleanbake applications."

"The Aquablast low volume water jets, which have a jet velocity approaching Mach 3 at close range, appear to have the power to remove every trace of contaminant from our customers' assets without any damage. Achieving this with only fresh water is a major step forward for an industrial cleaning process like ours."

Solvent Recovery

Cleanbake first started the Solvent Recovery process in January 2009 when we approached G-Tech Cleantech Solutions Ltd regarding the overall solvent 'emission' situation in connection with the solvents in use for the baking tray washing. The first problem that had to be addressed was the recovery of liquid solvents that were contaminated in silicone based release agents. The silicone agents themselves being contaminated in baking dough from bread making processes, quantities per day varied around the 200 litre mark and therefore fell within the capabilities of the NSC 110 unit that is capable of recovering up to 30 litres per hour of clean solvents. As the Solvesso boils at over 120°c under ambient conditions it was necessary to add vacuum assistance to bring down the boiling temperature and therefore the energy consumption of the recovery unit.

"The unit was supplied to us with twin stainless steel 500 litre tanks. The Vacuum system was then built so as to be integral with the tanks. These tanks are used to supply the NSC110 with dirty solvent and receive clean solvent form the unit."

"This Solvent Recovery process is very successful in controlling the solvent quality and minimising the need for solvents to be sent of site for disposal,"

Water Treatment Plant

Cleanbake Ltd are in the process of installing a Waste Water Treatment and Recovery System. The purpose of this system is to enhance Cleanbake's continued responsible environmental policy. This works by discharging minimal waste water to local authority drains under strict consent to discharge. The system works by initially removing solids from waste water, continuing with further chemical treatment until the waste water is of sufficient quality to be reused or, in small quantities, sent to drain. Although installed at a significant investment, this demonstrates Cleanbake's commitment to sound environmental principles.
